Who We Are
The MEK Kidney Foundation is headquartered in Dallas. It is a registered nonprofit organization that addresses a critical gap in health care. Our mission is to safeguard lives by promoting education and awareness about chronic kidney disease and its early detection. Through the generous support of public and private donors, we generate funds for programs specifically tailored to assist uninsured chronic kidney disease patients from low-income backgrounds. We place special emphasis on supporting the U.S. African immigrant, Hispanic, and Native American communities, as well as extending our reach to those in need internationally.
Our Story
Abara Dibaki’s journey is a powerful testament to the unpredictable nature of health and the resilience of the human spirit. Despite being a paragon of preventive healthcare, Abara’s unexpected diagnosis of C3 Glomerulonephritis, a rare autoimmune disorder, dramatically altered his life. His rapid progression from being asymptomatic to exhibiting severe symptoms of stage 5 kidney disease, and the subsequent aggressive treatment that included chemotherapy and the compassionate use of Eculizumab, highlight the severity and unpredictability of autoimmune disorders.
The most poignant turn in Abara’s story is the loss of his kidneys and the subsequent life-saving Kidney transplant he received from his wife, Atemnkeng Dibaki, in 2019. This act of profound love and sacrifice is not just a story of medical resilience but also of the strength of familial bonds and the power of community support.
In the wake of this life-changing experience, Abara, along with his wife and their three children, have redirected their energies and resources towards helping others facing similar challenges. Their commitment to providing financial assistance to low-income, uninsured patients battling chronic kidney disease is a noble endeavor.
Furthermore, the Dibaki family’s dedication to elevating education, awareness, and the spread of vital information about chronic kidney disease is a beacon of hope and progress. In their quest to enlighten the public, they do more than just thwart the advancement of this disease; they empower patients and their families with a treasure trove of knowledge and resources.
Their endeavors beautifully highlight the essence of community solidarity, the formidable strength forged in the fires of shared adversity, and the profound impact of transforming personal tribulations into a crusade for the betterment of others.
The Dibakis’ journey is not only inspirational but also a poignant reminder of the incredible influence that committed individuals can wield in ameliorating the lives of those entangled in the struggles of serious health conditions.
